Hordes of weans, far too many animals and a business to run means that running always seems to take second place. Live in gorgeous open hill-country near Kelso in the Borders, which is just perfect for training, but seems to be an awful long way from all but a very few races. Used to prefer long races, but always seem to come unstuck if I try them now, so probably best over about 1 - 2 hours. Love climbing and runnable terrain, detest descending, tussocks and boulders.
 Career Highlights
Quite a few, but mostly a decade or more ago. Second in World Trail Running Champs (80 miles) in 1993; 2:29 win in Stratford Marathon in the same year; 31:48 for 10K on the road; 2 wins in the Seven Sisters Marathon in 1990 and 1995, 610-mile jaunt around the 610-mile South West Coast Path in 23 days in 1996, and a 5-day trot across the 212-mile Southern Upland Way a year later; 1st in Pentland Skyline in 1997 and a couple of wins in the Yetholm Hill Race in 2004 & 2006.
